Sight words are certainly important at the same time phonics is something that sets up the foundation for reading new words. We bought a leapfrog fridge phonics toy that sings each letter. Kids can remove and add one letter on its magnetic socket and it sings the letter with a phonics sound. Babies love it and it helps them learn the sound of each letter.
