The more we do these projects, the more my kids like art. That’s why I’m so excited to tell you about this new Sunflower Unit Study in a sponsored post from See the Light. Affiliate links are in this post for your convenience, for more information read my full disclosure.
My favorite thing to teach is art. Not because I am any good at it, but because it’s fun and you can incorporate all the other subjects into one art project. It’s true! Math, Science, English, Writing, Bible, even a foreign language can be taught with and through art!
That is just what the new Sunflower Unit & Art Project from See the Light does. All of the subjects that are important to you are in this unit! The activities and assignments are aligned with their new Vincent Van Gogh inspired Sunflower Art Project DVD. It takes advantage of your child’s love for art and helps transfer that passion into all other subjects.
Sunflower Unit Study
The 4 week Sunflower Unit lays out all of your activities for each day and gives you a week-at-a-glance schedule. It is so easy to go through and customize this unit for your family’s needs. Although the unit says it is for ages 10-15, my daughter is six and loved this!
The unit kicks the week off with a lesson from the Sunflower Art Project DVD. Master artist Pat Knepley gives a brief introduction to Van Gogh and ties in scripture to the project.
My daughter went over her Old Testament books of the Bible and then got some practice looking up a verse.
Van Gogh Sunflower Art for Kids
The project itself called for oil pastels, but since my children as so young I opted for regular crayons. It worked out perfectly because my 4-yr-old decided to join in too!
That is the great thing about these lessons, the techniques transfer to all different kinds of art and are easily replicated.
This gives children confidence and also creative freedom so they are excited to draw and paint their own art.
Throughout the week, I choose the assignments from the unit study that fit best for my daughter’s age and abilities. We did a lot of Bible reading, copy work, and letter writing, but it all revolved around our art project, Van Gogh and sunflowers.
We didn’t wait the full 4 weeks to finish the project because my daughter couldn’t wait to complete her sunflower.
Of course, that was fine with me because we can just try the project again, improving our abilities and choosing different activities that the Unit Study offers.
More About See the Light Art Projects
Our family loves See the Light because all of their art projects tie scripture into the lessons. Not only do my children improve their fine motor skills and creative abilities, they also learn more about God!
The new Sunflower Unit Study makes it easy for the Christian homeschooler to motivate their children and organize lesson time for the entire month! You can learn more about it from other homeschool moms in the video below.

My daughter loves art and aspires to be an artist one day and since I tend to lean towards the fiber arts rather then fine arts, I need all the help I can get.
