If you look at everything on earth you can see pattern and order. Nothing looks like it was complied through random chance.
Take 2 piles of blocks for example. 1 is scattered about, the other looks like a house. Which one was made through random chance? No one would say the house because we all know that it had to have a builder. The probability of blocks landing in a house form is zero.
It is the same with our world. Nothing looks like it could have just randomly come together because everything has purpose and a clear design.
Birds and fish are no different. Wings and gills do specific jobs and while there are numerous varieties, they all share a common design.
For the 5th day of the creation story, we did a bird craft and a fish craft, plus and experiment to show how fish breathe under water.
Creation Craft
For our Tissue Paper Fish craft, I drew a fish picture on one side of a sheet of contact paper for each child. I showed them how they could ‘color’ the picture in using different colored tissue paper.
They loved choosing which colors to use. Then we covered the back with a sheet of white tissue paper.
For our second craft, we made hand print sparrows on our copy-work printables. I don’t remember where I found this, it has been a year or so since we did this, but just so you know that this idea isn’t mine 🙂
Audrey didn’t quite like the feeling of the paint, but the prints came out really good! I had the kids draw the head with their finger and do a few finger prints too.
The kids gave their birds some wings and turned their finger prints into bugs.
How Fish Breathe Underwater
I wanted to show how the gills of a fish help it breathe. This is just one of the many unique features of fish that could be studied to show the amazing design of God’s creation.
For this experiment, all you’ll need is a plastic cup, coffee filter, rubber band, and water with coffee or sand in it. I told the kids that the filter was like a fishes gills. Then I told them to pretend that the coffee in the water was oxygen. Oxygen is what we breathe and need to live. So when the water goes through a fishes gills, it gets caught.
How Do Fish Breathe Video
To see some more details about how exactly the oxygen gets into the fish, we watched this video. Children can record all their discoveries on a free experiment worksheet printable here.
I ended all of our projects by praying that God would help us remember how perfect He made His creation and to help us seek wisdom to combat the voices that say it is all just random chance.
