My kids were so excited to play these games. They are all about the strategy games! Some of their favorite games are Settlers of Catan, Risk and 7 Wonders. Sometimes Bible games are so focused on learning the facts, that they miss out on the fun!

New Bible Games for Kids

Here are three awesome new games to help you learn more about the Bible while having fun at the same time!

1.Disciple Detective: a game of mystery and knowledge.

This is a deductive card game. By piecing the clues together, you must find out which disciple you have before your opponents can figure out their’s. When you discover who your disciple is you score points. Whoever has the most points wins!

The kids really enjoyed this game because it was east to learn and reminded them of Clue. It was a fast game. We were able to finish in about 20 minutes. Each time you play you remember more about the disciples of Jesus!

2. Kings of Israel: an epic team game.

By working together you must remove all the sin from neighboring towns and cities, by praying to god and building alters. Remove all the sin blocks before time runs out!

This game has a lot of the names of major places in Israel and of the Kings and Empires that are talked about in the Bible. We haven’t played many cooperative games so this was so much fun because of how different game play was. It had a few features that felt like other games too. For example, to build an alter you had to trade in resource cards that you could get during the time of a good King’s rule. That made it easier to learn how to play for us.

3. The wisdom of Solomon: a critical thinking, strategy game.

In this game, you trade and gather resources to become more powerful than your opponents in an epic race to contain power and please God by sacrificing and praying!

This was by far the kids’ favorite game. Since they are a little older, (ages 8, 10 and 13) they like more complex games. This had a lot of their favorite features like using resources to build the temple, taking over territories, and the more competitive nature of the game. I loved the game because it has Bible verses, mainly from Psalms and Proverbs, on the game cards!

You’ll also learn a lot about life during the time of Solomon and some of the main occupations people had. This game would definitely be a hit with your older players!

4. The disciples floor puzzle: 

a gigantic 4ft puzzle with hundred of thick high quality puzzle pieces, that holds a complete picture of all the apostles!

The younger children had fun helping put this puzzle together. It really is very heavy duty, with bigger pieces that is great for smaller hands. I think it would be a good activity for a small Sunday School class too!

I have children coming to my home preschool throughout the summer.  It is so helpful to have fun and enriching activities for them to do when they are here.  All three of these activities promote different types of skills and are perfect for all different ages!

Animal Habitat Activities

1. DIY Animal Habitat Board Game

Supplies: Construction paper, Reusable Stickers or small animal toys, Pencils, Scissors

The girls were so excited to make their own board game! I gave them a piece of construction paper and let them draw their own board game first.  Then we worked on one together.

I asked them where animals live and we added different colored paper for each place they named; in the water, in the jungle, in the field, and in the dessert.  We made our own people for place markers and drew a path through the different habitats.

The girls took turns placing our Reusable Sticker Animals on the path in their correct habitat.  We used a spinner with 1-4 from another board game and started to play!  It was fun to have everyone act like the animal that they landed on.  The first person to the end was the winner!

2.  Animal Habitat Scenes

These reusable stickers were great for free and imaginative play.  I had children from 3-7 yrs happily designing their habitat scenes for almost an hour!  There were 5 scenes in the set and more than 150 stickers!  For under $4, this makes a great busy bag activity that the children will use again and again.

3. DIY Animal Puzzles

You could use any flat toy animals, but we used our reusable stickers again to make our own puzzles!  All we did was trace the outline of the stickers on a piece of paper.  You could have your children draw a habitat scene before they traced the animals too.

I had to help the younger children trace, but they really loved trading puzzles and putting them together.  I talked about which animals on their paper lived in the same habitat.  The children loved it and wanted to make more puzzles!

Even Colton got to do his animal puzzle! The noises the puzzle makes are perfect for him because he can’t say the animals names quite yet and it motivates him to put it back together.

We had such a great time learning about animal habitats!  How do you teach your children about animals?

Bananagrams is addicting!  Play it just once and you’ll be hooked.  It’s definitely worth the cost, but if you don’t have 14.99 to spend right now, don’t let that stop you.  You can make your own DIY letter tiles for under $5 and use them for a variety of reading and letter games, including Bananagrams!

These tiles are super simple!  The supplies you need may vary depending on what you want to use the tiles for.  If you are simply making Letter tiles for Bananagrams you’ll need:

Tiles – I got a 12×12 sheet from the Home Depot for $1.99 on sale.  They are 3/4″ mosaic tiles which are a bigger than regular Bananagrams.  You’ll need 144+ for a complete Bananagrams game.  I had just enough

Letter Stickers – I grabbed cheap letter stickers from the dollar store.

Clear adhesive or nail polish

Sandpaper – You might not need this if you get individual tiles, not a sheet.

Xacto Knife – Depends on tiles.

(Optional: Magnets)

How to Make DIY Bananagrams Letter Tiles

First, I removed the tiles from the mesh backing.  Mine peeled off, but you may need an Xacto knife to remove yours.  Next, I used sandpaper to smooth the back of the tiles and remove the glue.  Finally, I stuck on my stickers and gave them a coat of clear nail polish so they wouldn’t come off.  Done!  Here is a guide to see how many of each letter is in the Bananagrams game:

• 2: J, K, Q, X, Z
• 3: B, C, F, H, M, P, V, W, Y
• 4: G
• 5: L
• 6: D, S, U
• 8: N
• 9: T, R
• 11: O
• 12: I
• 13: A
• 18: E

Or, add flat magnets to the back to use them in a different way.

How to Play Bananagrams (ages 6+):

The object of this game is to be the first one who can create a group of interconnected words like a personal “crossword puzzle” after all the extra tiles are used.

To play, flip all the tiles face down in the middle of the table.  This will become the draw pile.  Have each player draw 21 tiles for a 2-4 player game (15, 5-6 players; 11, 7-8 players).  Then, one person calls “split” and everyone flips their tiles face up and starts arranging their tiles into interconnecting words.  When someone uses their tiles up they yell “peel” and everyone must take another tile.

If you cannot find a place for a tile in your crossword, simply yell “dump” and put it back in the middle, drawing three more at random to make an exchange.  You can also rearrange your crossword at anytime as long as all the remaining tiles make words.

The game ends when there are less tiles in the draw pile than there are players.  The first person to use all of their remaining tiles yells, “Bananas!”  If all of their words check out in the dictionary – they win!

Variations:

Remove the difficult letters from play for younger children.

Play a collaborative game with one big crossword.
