There were a few close calls. One time he was strung out for a week solid. He started hallucinating and seeing aliens and star people. I was tempted to question his lifestyle, but his bloodshot eyes looked deep into mine and he said, “Look at me. You think I would chose this lifestyle? This is how God made me!” What a great point. No one would choose to live like that, so it must be how God made him.

A month later he lost his job because his boss was bigoted against stoners. I can never understand hate like that.  My stoner friend said Jesus wants us to love and accept everyone for who they are. I could see he was hurting, so I told him that I loved him and offered to buy his next fix.

Okay, so that story is only half true. I did have a friend hooked on drugs, but of course, I didn’t support his choice. Precisely because I did love him, I rejected his lifestyle.

Yes, there were times when it offended him, times when he thought I was being “judgemental,” and intolerant. But guess what? When he needed help out of the lifestyle, he didn’t go to his supportive friends; he came to me.

The other day I spoke out against an even more destructive lifestyle, homosexuality. And guess what, someone called me “hateful.”

Do you know what the attempted suicide rate is for homosexuals? It’s about 30% for gays and 43% for transgendered. But the real killer is desease. For example, roughly 2% of Americans are infected with HIV, and homosexuals account for 61% of those infected.

The drug rates are just as high, with about 30% of homosexuals abusing, compared to about 9% of heterosexuals. And for all the talk of “love,” homosexuals are far more likely to commit acts of domestic violence.

Although the name “gay” suggests otherwise, they are also far more likely to suffer from depression and mental illness.

The list goes on and on, proving that few lifestyle choices could be more destructive than homosexuality. Most advocates will admit this, but say that it is all the result of society not accepting gays.

Nice try!

People have been persecuted and oppressed all throughout history. And I’m not talking about micro-aggressions and name calling. I’m talking about Christians being hunted down and burned at the stake for their beliefs!

And guess what, no evidence suggests that these persecutions caused suicide, domestic violence, drug abuse, or disease. In fact, they often had the opposite effect.

As Christians we know that all lifestyles that run counter to God’s design lead to self-destruction. Look at hollywood. They have all the wealth, and glory, and fame that the world has to offer, and yet we find a common theme of abuse, suicide and depression. Society loves them, so what is their excuse? The truth is, genuine happiness is not found in any lifestyle apart from our Creator.

And so I have to ask, who is the true homophobe? – the true gay-hater? The progressive who encourages gays on to their destruction, or the Christian trying to show them a better way?

Many Christian bakers have said no, and have been persecuted for their convictions. However, I thought this article was an interesting spin.

Jessica Kantrowitz writes “If anyone forces you to bake a cake for a gay wedding, bake for them two.” ~ Matthew 5:41. Obviously, that isn’t what the Matthew 5:41 says. The real verse is, “If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles.”

Jessica writes, “Jesus said, not only should you follow the law of the land — the law which in America for the most part prohibits discrimination against people because of their sexual orientation — not only should you do the minimum you have to do, you should go the extra mile. (Yes, that’s where that expression comes from!) Do *twice* what the law requires.”

So, in Jessica’s mind, that means Christians should not only bake one gay wedding cake, but two.

Normally, I would laugh an article like this off, but after reading the comments, I realized that a lot of well-meaning Christians were buying into this. It is really frightening to see the scriptures so blatantly misrepresented and then see Christians cheering her on. So here is my response to Jessica Kantrowitz.

First, are we to bake cakes to celebrate all sin, or just homosexual sin? I mean, if I am a baker and a man comes in demanding a cake to celebrate his adulterous relationship, I am to bake him two cakes?

If a woman comes in and wants a cake to celebrate the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, I am to bake her two cakes? If a man wants a cake to celebrate the holocaust, do I offer to bake him a second cake for free?

Is this what Jesus would have Christians do?

Can Christians make Gay Wedding Cakes?

Jesus tells the Jews to submit to taxation and offer to carry Roman soldiers’ bags a second mile. Neither of these are sins in and of themselves.

However, when Nero and Diocletian passed laws ordering Christians to sacrifice to Roman gods, the Christians refused. Hundreds of thousands were martyred, because they understood that God’s laws are higher than man’s. So, when they were ordered to celebrate false gods, they knew that they couldn’t.

Christian bakers have the same conviction.

They would gladly carry a homosexual’s bag two miles, and pay taxes to a pro-homosexual government. They would even bake homosexuals cake.

What they can’t do, is bake them a gay-wedding cake. At that point they are participating in the celebration of something strictly forbidden by God’s law.

I don’t think Jessica would advocate that Christians bake all sin-cakes. If it was a nazis cake, or ISIS cake, or beastiality cake, or cake to a false god, or whatever, I don’t think she’d want us baking the cake.

So, what is the difference? Why a gay-cake, and not a Nazis cake?

Well, Jessica doesn’t actually believe that homosexuality is a sin. She admits so in the her article saying “If you believe gay marriage is immoral (I don’t, myself).” So she wouldn’t be compromising her beliefs to bake a gay-wedding cake. But that doesn’t stop her from encouraging others to compromise their convictions, and then claims that doing so is Biblical.

But I bet if we found a sin she was against, like racism, murder, beastialty, idol worship, she wouldn’t bake the cake either!

See, this debate isn’t about “submitting to the law of the land,” it’s about whether homosexuality is a sin or not.

The Bible says that it is, Jessica says it’s not, and that is telling. Obviously, her faith isn’t guided by what the Bible actually teaches. Maybe that is why she takes the liberty to rewrite Matthew 5:41. But for those Christians who do believe in the Bible, we have no business baking gay-wedding cakes.

Her final argument is that if Christians would be more loving and accepting, we’d win more Christians. I agree that if we’d just give up the unpopular Biblical truths we’d be more popular, but then, when was popularity the point of Christianity?

Don’t be fooled. This isn’t about gay-wedding cakes. If these Christians baked them a gay-wedding cake, but said, “I will bake the cake, but I don’t agree with the lifestyle,” there would be just as much outrage.

The bakers would be called hateful and judgemental. It doesn’t matter if Christians wrap their truth in sunshine and cupcakes, the opposition will find it just as “hateful.” It isn’t you, your tone, or approach, that they find hateful; it is your truth!

Jesus never said, “If anyone forces you to bake a cake for a gay wedding, bake for them two.” but He did say, “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.” John 15:18-19.

That is what they want you to think; but nothing has changed.

Marriage is what it has always been, a Godly union between a man and a woman. The Supreme Court doesn’t have the power to change that.

Sadly, most Christians in America are very confused. If you ask them what the highest law in the United States is, they will proudly proclaim, “the Constitution.”

Of course, they are wrong. That is the second highest law. The first is God’s law. And all the judges in the universe, even if they voted unanimously, couldn’t change God’s law.

These courts aren’t changing, but rejecting marriage laws. They aren’t upholding the law, they are breaking it. This isn’t new and progressive. It’s the ancient rebellion of man rejecting God.

Homosexuals can pretend that they can get married, but that doesn’t change marriage. Just like when the supreme court legalized abortion, it didn’t make the atrocity anything less than the murder of innocents – the same as Pharaoh and Herod, just on a much larger scale.

Sadly, most Christians, aren’t sure if homosexuality is even a sin anymore. With churches hardly addressing the issue anymore, and schools working over time to condition acceptance, it is no wonder.

So, why is homosexuality a sin? Here we go.

Whether you are Adam, Saul, Jonah, or anybody else, disobedience to God is a sin. You may not understand why you can’t eat the forbidden fruit, but you must obey, trusting that God who created all, knows what’s best for you. So did God forbid homosexuality? It couldn’t be clearer:

Leviticus 18:22

You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.

1 Corinthians 6:9-11

Sadly, it is the homosexuals that will be hurt the most from this “ruling.”

Every form of sin is its own punishment. God, who is infinitely good and wise, created men and women to meet each others’ needs. He might have just created another man for Adam, but He created something different, understanding that she would best suit Adam’s needs and desires, and he her’s.

We already see homosexuals suffering, having higher rates of domestic abuse, disease, abandonment, drug use, depression and suicide.

Instead of seeing the malcontent in their own community as a sign of their own bad choices, they imagine that it is society’s lack of acceptance driving them to the fringes.

If society would just condone and even celebrate their lifestyles, then they’d truly be free to live happily ever after in sin. But they will soon find on the other side of a marriage license, that what wasn’t meant to be, still won’t work.

Of course, they aren’t the only ones making the discovery. Straight couples have tried to form their unGodly lifestyle into God’s mold, and they aren’t fairing any better.

You can’t embrace no-fault divorce, abortion, pornography, strip clubs, prostitution, premarital sex, and cohabitation, and have a successful marriage. In other words, just being straight will not ensure a good marriage. You have to fit your relationship into God’s mold, and only then will it work.

So the good news is, your marriage is between you, your spouse and God. This Supreme Court’s decision will have no effect on that. The Supreme Court can’t ruin your marriage, only you, or your spouse, can do that. The bad news is that our nation has, at every turn, rejected God.

Obama said, “Whatever we once were, we’re no longer just a Christian nation.”

He is right. God help us.
