The first time I tried this slow cooker ham it was my first Thanksgiving as a new mom. My husband’s aunt made it and I was skeptical. Ham wasn’t really my thing. I used to imagine a rubbery salt-lick when people asked me if I wanted some ham at Thanksgiving dinner.

I am so glad I tried it, because after 8 years, it is still the only ham I like to eat for Thanksgiving.

I’ve given this recipe out to several people and I don’t think they’ve ever had ham any other way again either. The reason is that it tastes like candy! It’s sweet, salty, and melts in your mouth. It’s addicting!

The first time I had it, my aunt had to cut me off because she wanted some leftovers. I could eat half a ham alone cooked like this and it is too easy!

Usually I would write up a recipe card for this, but I’m just going to tell you because it’s a no-brainer.

The BEST Slow Cooker Ham Recipe

Drum-roll please…..

Ingredients: 1 Spiral Sliced Honey Ham, 2 cups of brown sugar and a few pineapple slices (optional).

Directions: Put 1 cup of brown sugar on the bottom of the slow cooker. Put the ham in and cover with another cup of brown sugar. Top with pineapple slices (optional). Cook on low for 6-8 hours.

That’s it!

I know, right?! So easy. Maybe it’s not really considered a protein after all the sugar, so just substitute it for that extra slice of pie you’re tempted to have. Trust me, it’s worth it.

Maybe you’d like to try this tasty marvel but you don’t want to buy a half a ham. You can always get a quarter of a ham and cut the recipe in half, which is SO difficult. Just make sure it is spiral cut or it won’t work. I’ve tried it and it was the biggest disappointment.

To serve, I usually leave it in the slow cooker. If you take it out, make sure you take a lot of the juice with it because it will dry out.

Freeze the left-overs and use them in split pea soup, ham casserole, or Ramen.

I’m temped to make some right now and it’s only October. Quick, someone make up a holiday other than Halloween so I have an excuse.

Now that you know this secret recipe, try it, come back and tell me what you think!

The post The BEST Slow Cooker Ham Ever first appeared on True Aim.

What’s better than mashed potatoes? Make ahead mashed potatoes loaded with all your favorite toppings. It’s like heaven in a pan. Perfect for BBQs, potlucks, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, here’s my recipe for loaded mashed potato casserole. You’ll never want to make regular mashed potatoes again.

So why is this so good? Bacon is a good answer and then there is that make ahead factor. Cooking this casserole ahead of time or even freezing it for another day makes it perfect for hectic nights. Plus, it is a large portion so big families and people who like left overs will appreciate it. I like to use some of it to make potato pancakes. Just add a little egg to make patties and pan fry those babies until crispy.

I’m helping a new mom today! So, find out how to make this yummy casserole at my friend Dianna’s Blog, the Kennedy Adventures.

The post Loaded Mashed Potato Casserole first appeared on True Aim.

I’ve made this for 10 years now! Smoked Salmon has always been my favorite and quiche a close second, so together they are even more amazing. If I wasn’t cooking for the family all the time I could eat the whole thing by myself.

I first tried a smoked salmon quiche on my honeymoon. The front of the restaurant looked out onto the beach and the food was even better than the view. At home I tried to recreate it, but I didn’t know how to make a homemade pie crust and was a little intimidated. I had pre-shredded hashbrowns in my refrigerator, so I used those to make a crispy potato crust. It made it even better.

Smoked Salmon Quiche

The potatoes have a special seasoning making this quiche taste sort of like fish and chips. But everything I make is easy to alter, so if you don’t want to do potatoes, just switch them out for a regular pie crust.

Quiches are easy to make, so they are a great recipe to teach to your children. First for the base, I shredded the potatoes like hash browns. My potatoes were fresh so I had my daughter Audrey cook them for a short while to soften them up. If you are using store bought hash browns, just make sure they are defrosted and you can skip this step.

After cooking, Audrey mixed in the seasonings and Parmesan and pressed it into a pie plate. I popped it into the oven to precook before adding the filling.

While that beauty was cooling, my younger daughter Emma was really thrilled to help because she got to cut up the smoked salmon with a knife (butter knife). She felt very grown up.

The beauty of this quiche is that you don’t need a lot of fish to get the amazing smoked fish flavor. So what looks like an expensive meal, isn’t anymore expensive than if you made a common ham quiche. Heavy cream also helps with flavor!

I like to put broccoli in this quiche but you might like to try asparagus, spinach or even green beans. What ever veggie you like, throw it in. You really can’t go wrong.

The hardest thing about this is just waiting for everything to come together. I wish this thing cooked faster, but you have to give it time to set up. No one likes a soggy quiche, yuck!

I am a member of the Collective Bias® Social Fabric® Community. This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper amplification for Collective Bias and its advertiser.

Why do I like to grill? There are so many reasons, but the most important one is the smell. The aroma of grilled meat, (especially with Chicken Marinade), makes my mouth water, but it also brings back summer memories.

Memories of family and friends gathering together to reconnect over a great meal. There is one memory in particular that is bitter sweet.

We had been gathering everyday for a week at my aunt’s house after a tragic event. Our cousin would grill for us almost every night. It was his way of pitching in to help and he was amazing with that thing! Grilling foods that I’d never thought of grilling. Everything tasted like it came out of a restaurant. That’s exactly what we all needed – comfort food.

So when I grill something like these Teriyaki Cornish Game Hens, I remember that special time we shared as a family.

Grilled Cornish Game Hens

You’d be surprised how easy it is to grill these hens. The only hard part – finding them in your Walmart store. They might not be where you think they are, so if you don’t see them make sure you ask a clerk before you give up.

To cook the birds, first you’ll need to Spatchcock each one of them to get them to lay flat on the grill.

This allows for a faster cooking time and gives the hen a crispy skin.

I paired my birds with slightly sweet and easy coconut rice, grilled bell peppers, and pinapple. It was delicious!

We prepared our coconut rice in our rice cooker, but you can do it on the stove too!
