Things in life never seem to go as we think they will, often we’re thrown curve balls that we don’t see coming and barely have time to prepare for. When we don’t have time to prepare for these unexpected happenings in our life we can get weighed down with stress, concern and worry. We know deep within our hearts that God is in control and that He knows the end from the beginning, but we are human after all and letting go and letting God isn’t always as easy as it truly should be. We like to be in control, but faith isn’t about control. Faith requires us to let go. Here are 3 tips for a renewed spirit.

3 Tips for a Renewed Spirit

When we hold onto the stress, concern and worry that comes along with the unexpected, our spirits will be brought down. By failing to let go and let God, we are choosing to allow our mind, body and spirit to be worn down. We were not meant to hold onto everything that comes our way alone, God wants to take our burden and renew our spirits. God waits for us to hand over our cares to Him, but will we let Him take control?

Take a walk and pray

When spirits are broken, fresh air can do amazing things! Getting outside and alone with your thoughts can give you clarity regarding things happening in your life. Once you’re alone with your thoughts and nature, you can cry out to God and pour out your heart to Him. He is waiting and having nothing around to distract you from the need to talk to Him, you will find the peace and strength that He alone can provide.

Give thanks throughout the day

No matter what is happening in our lives, we always have something to be thankful for. When we take time to give thanks for the blessings that God has given us, we will begin to see just how wonderful He truly is. Giving thanks can give us a new perspective in the midst of storms in our lives. We realize that we are not alone and that God is walking alongside us because we see His hand moving throughout our lives along the way.

Let it go

Holding onto something tightly in our hands doesn’t keep us from stress, concern or worry, instead it keeps us from living a life of freedom. God offers us a gift, the ability to let go of struggles in our life and let Him take care of them. Yet, all too often we’d rather hold right onto them and try to take care of things ourselves. Letting go and letting God is a gift, will we open our hands and accept it?

Renewing our spirits isn’t always an easy process. Sometimes a short time in prayer is all that we need to find the strength to move on. Other times, it may take more than just a simple walk outside and one conversation with God. We need to learn to recognize when we need to take time to allow God to renew our spirits. Then, we must take the steps necessary to let go of what we’re struggling with so that God can work.

Definition

Faith is trusting in something or someone. Faith in God is believing that He can and will do all that He has promised. Faithfulness is holding to that belief even in the face of danger. A person who has faith in God chooses to love and obey Him above all else.

Verses

“I have chosen the way of faithfulness; I have set my heart on your laws.” Psalm 119:30

“In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” James 2:17

Activities

Let’s Talk About Faith

Help your children understand the meaning of faith by giving the example of riding in an airplane. When we ride on an airplane we have faith that it will fly and take us where we want to go. Their are a lot of other examples, but the main point to make is that faith is built on the knowledge of facts.

Without faith in God there is no reference to judge right from wrong. Establish this faith in your children at an early age by teaching them who God is, what He has done for us, and what He has promised.

Emphasize the fact that God is the Creator when describing plants, singing songs and reading books about Him.

Avoid cartoon illustrations of the Bible stories so children will not confuse fact for fiction.

Introduce Biblical history at a very young age to establish the Bible as a historical document and not a book of “fairy tales”.

Very young children love and understand these short devotionals! We read one right before nap time everyday in my preschool. I like to ask questions about how the children can apply what we learn to their lives after we read. I always get great responses! These devotionals teach basic principals and are accompanied by a corresponding verse and rhyming prayer. Ages 1+

Blue Manor History eBook Set

History is the key to understanding the past and predicting the future. Children who have no concept of history, will have trouble understanding our current political, social, and religious environment. That is why parents should begin teaching their children history as early as possible, especially Biblical history. This book set will help your children have a firm foundation in Biblical, World, and US History! Plus, it contains stories of Christian heroes to inspire your children to do great things for God.

Activities that Teach Values: Faith

Exercise Your Faith

After talking to your children about having faith in God, do this little exercise.
Have a child stand in front of you facing in the other direction.
Tell them to hold their arms out to the side.
Tell them they need to have faith that you will catch them.
See if they can fall backward into your arms
without look back or bending their knees.
Connect the exercise to their faith in God.
If they believe that He loves them and wants what is best,
then they can show their faithfulness by obeying Him.
