It can also be used to make cakes, meat, fish, and fried vegetables. For these hash browns, we used the removable mixing paddle, to help stir the hash browns.

This can be taken out for sold foods such as cake or pies. With a double heating element, the Multifry is speedy and holds close to 4 pounds of food. It is topped with a BPA-free transparent lid, so you can easily watch your food cook!

For our valuable weekend family time, the MultiFry made clean up simple. On the stove, frying hash browns makes a mess and oil splatters everywhere. More often than not, it makes an oily mess on our stove and kitchen floor that is tough to clean up.

Easy Hash Browns with the De’Longhi MultiFry

Despite not much oil and no cooking spray, the MultiFry pan and paddle were simple to clean out; a huge plus for our busy family. This morning, we wanted to make some hash browns, topped with sour cream and cheese for extra flavors.

If you don’t enjoy trying or creating new recipes, the MultiFry comes with a recipe book, filled with 20 basic recipes with step-by-step instructions in English, Spanish, and French. We were also excited to find even more recipes on the De’Longhi website, for endless possibilities.

The only negative we found was the size; with two heating elements and two fans, it cooked quickly and evenly, however takes up quite a bit of space. However, it is smaller than a deep fryer, and can do much more, on a lot less oil. Overall, we enjoyed our MultiFryer and will definitely be using it in the future!

This conversation is sponsored by General Mills® via Burst Media. The opinions and text are my own. I did it again. I slept in on a Saturday morning. It seemed like the only day that I could get a break, but then the kids had to wait way too long for breakfast. What happened then? I had a lot of grump-a-lumps on my hands and that made for a really sad Saturday morning. It wasn’t working, so finally my daughter piped up, “Mom, can’t I get everyone breakfast on Saturdays?” Ah! Why was my 5-year-old smarter than me? Yes, yes you can my dear!

I remember when I was young and my mother let me make my own breakfast in the morning. Although it seems like nothing to us now, to a 5-yr-old, getting your own cereal all by yourself makes you feel way grown up. My daughter is especially proud and if I show my face in the kitchen when she’s getting breakfast, oh no! My mother always had Honey Nut Cheerios® in the pantry when I was young. I guess it’s just an ingrained preference, but that’s what we always have in our pantry too. But I know my mother didn’t have a smart phone to help her shop for deals on cereal like I do.

That’s why I love my Ibotta App and check it before I go shopping each week. You have to try it out and get the weekly General Mills® cereal offers at WinCo. Each week from now until May 25th there will be a featured cereal of the week that you can redeem for $1.50! If you buy 5 cereals, you can redeem an additional $2.50! Cereals included in this offer are Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Cocoa Puffs, Chocolate Toast Crunch, Golden Grahams, Dark Chocolate Multigrain Cheerios, Lucky Charms, Fiber One Protein, and of course, Honey Nut Cheerios! Save up to $14.50 on your favorite cereals! For more information visit Ibotta’s blog.

And when my daughter’s not making breakfast for herself, she’s begging along with her brother and sister for me to make muffins. Of course I will! As long as someone helps me

I have three muffin recipes that I like to rotate through; banana, blueberry, and Apple Cinnamon. The best part is, I use the cereal that’s left over from Saturday mornings as topping for the muffins during the week.

You know that annoying amount of cereal at the bottom of the bag that doesn’t quite make a full bowl? It doesn’t split between 3 children well, but it makes a great crunch topping for the muffins.

It’s after the Easter Holiday and you look in the fridge. You see tie-dyed eggs, neon eggs, oh and crayon resist eggs you saw on Pinterest that you had to try. What are you going to do with them all!? If only your kids were as excited about eating them as you are about getting them out of your fridge. Well, try this fun snack kids can make themselves. They’ll love making art with their food!

How to: Egg Faces Snack

I made this snack into an activity by having my daughter come up with some of the ingredients we could use to make faces on our eggs. We brainstormed lots of things to get her really involved in the creative process. Ultimately we were constrained by the limited supplies in the refrigerator; cucumbers, carrots, and sunflower seeds, but we’ll have lots of ideas for next time!

My daughter made the boiled eggs all by herself using this safe and easy method that makes peeling really easy. Then she cut the eggs into thin slices. It was a little tricky, but she enjoyed eating the scraps.

We prepared everything else we needed to assemble our snack; toasted the toast, peeled some carrots and cut up some cucumbers.

For younger children, this could be a great time to talk about feelings and the different faces we make for each. Can your child make a mad egg face? How about a super silly one? Or how about making a face yourself and seeing if your child can copy it? Whatever you end up doing, it will be deliciously fun!

My daughter loved making her faces, and eating them too. She even asked me if she could make them again tomorrow. Good breakfast idea Audrey! And if she wants to clear my fridge of boiled eggs, God bless her heart!

What kind of ingredients would you use to make egg faces? I think a little homemade fry sauce would be good!

If you make these at home with your child, please share a picture on our Facebook page. I’d love to share the cuteness with my followers.

We love granola! But the store bought kind is expensive and who knows what they put in it. I experimented countless times to get the right recipe and finally got it! So, I’m sharing it with you! The best thing about this homemade granola is that it sticks together in chunks for easy (i.e. can’t get your hand out of the jar) snacking.

Homemade Granola Ingredients

This master recipe helps you customize your own homemade granola so you can put your favorite ingredients and flavors in.

Base:

4 Cups Old Fashioned Oats

1 Cup Unsweetened Coconut Chips (add more nuts and oats if you don’t want the coconut)

Spices:

1 Pinch of Salt

1 Tablespoon of your favorite spice like cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, or a mixture of cardamom, ginger, cinnamon and cloves for a gingerbread taste.

Nuts or Seeds:

1 Cup of raw sliced almonds, chopped pecans, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds or a fun combination.

Dried Fruit:

1/2 Cup of dried cranberries, raisins, chopped apricots, chopped cherries, ect.

Oil or Fat:

1/4 Cup Melted Butter, Canola Oil, or Coconut Oil

Sweetener:

1/4 Cup + 2 Tablespoons Brown Sugar, Maple Syrup, Honey, Agave, or Sweetener of your choice. I usually use a Brown Sugar and Honey combination. You could also try 2 tablespoons of peanut butter.

Flavoring:

1 1/2 Teaspoons of vanilla, almond, or your favorite extract.

Optional: Lemon or Orange Zest

How to Make Healthy Homemade Granola

This is a perfect recipe to cook with your kids because it’s not messy and it’s really easy. My little Emma has shown an interest in helping me cook lately so I recruited her to mix it up.

First, we preheated the oven to 300° and lined an edged pan with tin foil. Then we mixed together our base, spices, nuts, and dried fruit in a large bowl.

Emma put sliced almonds, cranberries, cinnamon, and nutmeg in ours. Sometimes we add a handful of mini chocolate chips after it has cooled completely.

In a separate bowl or measuring cup I combined the oil and sweetener until it resembled a liquid caramel. Our mixture includes melted butter, brown sugar, honey and vanilla.

Emma stirred in half of the sweetener mix with a wooden spoon until it was combined and then stirred in the remaining liquid. She mixed it really well until it was evenly distributed.

Gosh she’s cute

I spread out the granola evenly on the foil-lined pan and baked for about 30 minutes until it was lightly golden. If you want your granola to stick together in chunks, don’t stir it! Set it on a wire rack and let it cool completely before breaking the granola up. If you don’t like your granola to stick together, stir every 8-10 minutes during the cooking time and right after you take it out of the oven.

We eat our granola on Greek yogurt, with milk like cereal, and just plain for a quick snack. You could also try topping muffins with it before they go in the oven for a delicious crunch.

What do you like to put in your granola?

I save this recipe for special times, like holidays or a birthday breakfast. With the help of your kids, this is really quick and fun to make!

Eggs in a Basket

Ingredients:

6 Pieces of Bread

Butter

2-3 Eggs

1-2 Tablespoons Milk

Fresh or Dried Herbs

Salt and Pepper

Directions:

Pre-heat griddle to 350°. Then, have your children pick different cookie cutters to cut shapes into the bread. Make sure they cut in the middle and turn the bread over and cut again to make sure that the shape is totally cut through.

Next, have them butter the bread on all sides while you mix up the eggs. I put the eggs and milk in a liquid measuring cup so I can pour it into the bread molds easily. Mix in whatever herbs that you like. You could also try adding green onion and red bell pepper.

Place your bread on the hot griddle and hold it down while you pour in the egg mixture. Let the eggs set a little before you let go of the bread to make sure that the eggs don’t run out all over the bottom. Season with salt and pepper. It would be fun to make a little face on the animal or people shapes with veggies. I like to add a little bit of Parmesan cheese on ours after the eggs cook for a couple of minutes.

Cook for 4-5 minutes or until the eggs look set, but still slightly wet. Turn and cook for 1-2 minutes more. Season again with salt and pepper.

Sometimes the eggs run out a little on the bottom, but just serve shape side up with the matching shape toast. Aren’t they fun!?

How do you make eggs fun for your kids? Please leave a comment!

My daughter is in the kitchen a lot. I thought I would teach her how to boil an egg so she could do it by herself sometime. While the water boiled and her pretty face looked at the steam rising up, I shuttered at the thought of her getting burned and knew there had to be a safer way.

The way I was showing her wasn’t safe for her to do alone, especially in the morning when she is still in a zombie-like state. So, I came up with a way for her to make a hard boiled eggs that limits the risk of serious injury.

The Best Way to Boil an Egg

This isn’t just the best way because it is safer. The eggs come out easy to peel and that is best when the kids are cooking!

First, have your child place the eggs in a pot on the stove. Fill the pot with water an inch or two above the eggs and turn the stove on to high. You could also try putting in a teaspoon of baking soda which is supposed to help them peel even easier. Wait until the water comes to a boil, cook 1 minute, and turn off the heat. Cover and let the eggs cook for about 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, have your children make some toast to go with your perfectly boiled eggs.

Remove them from the heat and simply let the eggs sit until they are cool enough to handle, or put some ice into the pot. If you want to use the eggs for later, I suggest putting the whole pot, including the water, in the refrigerator. That way the water keeps the lining that is under the shell moist so it’s easy to remove.

Peel and enjoy!

But wait, your kids don’t like hard boiled eggs? They might after you let them cook them all by themselves. Or, you can try telling them that they are special eggs like we did with our children. Pretending they are eating dinosaur eggs is a lot more interesting. Adding a little butter and salt helps too.

Do you have an easier way for kids to boil an egg? Please leave a comment!
