Oh man! No my children don’t have any authority over me because I am the parent, but YES! If I disobeyed a police officer, he might use physical force to make me comply. And yes I referenced the Bible because this is a Christian site written to other Christians.

If you don’t like the Bible as a reference, you need to look into it’s historical authenticity.

In reply to Britton. Well, I'm sorry to say this, but fuck the Bible or any religious book as support for an issue. Also, Jesus never wrote the Bible, it was his followers. I also think child rights matter. If you did something wrong, would you allow your child to spank you?

In reply to Jenn. The Bible says, "Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them." So, when you say Jesus is love, you are right, but your idea of love is all wrong. To pretend that Jesus' love somehow contradicts Biblical teachings is silly, considering He is the Bible's chief inspiration.

Parents who spank, and hide behind biblical teachings to defend their “right” to hit their children are no different then men who perform domestic abuse. Jesus is love. This is sadly the exact opposite. Thank you Delaware for stepping up and taking a lead to protecting children – God’s most loved.

I think it is out of line to punish the parents for teaching their children right from wrong. I have not swatted my children because we have other ways that seem to work here (like breaking toys when they throw a huge fit for example), but our methods won't work in all households and some kids may very well need a smack on the butt occasionally.

Putting the parents in jail is just very ridiculous. I think the country will get way out of control if you put this kind of fear into parents.

I am afraid that this is only the beginning. The government taking away our parental rights (not to mention contradicting the Bible!), is frightening. I pray we don't see the day, but I would not be surprised if we start seeing laws that make it illegal for us to teach God's Word to our children.

The further our country gets from God, the harder it will be for us Christians. I don’t think I’ll want to visit Delaware when those undisciplined children grow up and are running the place.

I’ve also heard that teaching children about God is child abuse… I’m sure if people say that long enough they’ll pass that law too… =/
