When I was an adult before I had kids, I always bought my mom a card. It was nice, but now that I’m a mom, I know how much a handmade card from my kids means rather than a store-bought one.

All the moms in your life will smile when they see the little prints in this handmade card. It is inspired by an awesome book in our Usborne Store called Fingerprint Activities.

There are so many inspiring pictures to make with your fingerprints, and this book makes it easy to duplicate and experiment with a built-in stamp pad.

Fingerprint Mother’s Day Card

First, I made this printable with 2 different Mother’s Day cards. One says, “I made a flower with my finger and thumb. So you will have these memories for years to come.  I love you.” This could be for any Mother in your life.

The other says, “If I had a Flower for each time I thought of my Mother, I could walk in my Garden Forever…” Just click on the image below to download.

We made prints with the tips of our fingers for the flowers and then added details with a black pen. The butterfly is made by printing the whole finger for the front wings and the tips of the fingers for the back wings.

We tried a bird and a bee and some flowers of our own. It was a lot of fun, and now we have special cards for our Mothers!

Hand prints are so telling.  It reminds us how quickly time goes by and how precious these moments we have really are.

I’m excited to see my little ones grow, but at the same, I want them to stay little forever.  I like to make some sort of hand and foot print card with their picture every year so I can remember their cuteness.

Mother’s Day Hand and Foot Print Card

First, print off this free Mother’s Day poem printable on card stock.  That way, if you use school glue it doesn’t get all wrinkly like regular printer paper.

Have the children trace their hands and a foot on construction paper or help them do it.  For the foot use green and for the hands a different color.  Cut the prints out as well as another long green strip of construction paper for the stem of the flower.  Next, place the stem on the card and arrange the hands into a flower shape with the palms overlapping on top of the stem.  Use the foot print as a leaf at the bottom of the stem.  Print off a picture of the children and place it in the middle of the flower hands.

One year, I didn’t have as many children in my preschool class so we used paint to make our hand and foot prints.

I really like paint, but the construction paper method is nice because older children can do it all by themselves.

I will definitely be doing the construction paper flower card again for my new preschool class at church.

The post 20+ Mother’s Day Gifts Kids Can Make first appeared on True Aim.

A fellow blogger and, more importantly, a fellow sister in Christ has experienced that immeasurable loss.  Her family was getting ready to make a huge journey to South America to spread the gospel when their 3-month-old little girl Zoe died unexpectedly.

That made me look at my 3-month-old and think, “What if this was the last time I held my baby?”  Every yawn, every smile, and every moment, I want to treasure forever because, it could very well be.

I feel blessed to be a mom 4 times over.  Time after time, each of my children bring me immense joy, while at the same time, a strong conviction.  I see the same effect playing out in the lives of so many others.

For example, My husband and I like to watch reality TV competitions.  Survivor, the Ultimate fighter, Master Chef, and Hells kitchen are some of our favorites.  And we see it again and again.  These people were broken and headed down the wrong path, but then they had a child of their own and it made them want to straighten out; living a better life so the ones they love will have it even better still.

Of course there is an ugly side to Motherhood.  It is all the little things your children do that urk you, but then you realize; monkey see, monkey do.  There is no where to hide.  Your children emulate your behavior, the good and the bad.

But that’s what’s so wonderful about Motherhood – the motivation to change bad to good and good to better, the opportunity to experience unconditional love first hand, no matter what you were like before or who you are now.  Motherhood is more than an experience, it is a miracle.

And just like other miracles, it can be brushed aside as simple coincidence, probability, or so diluted that it becomes an ordinary inconvenience.

But in the memory of Zoe and others lost, join me and 30 other bloggers in giving Motherhood the admiration it deserves.  Let’s rejoice in the amazing gift God has given us!  Let’s shout to the world and tell of the great rewards children bring to their parents!  Let’s treasure the time that we have because it is fleeting.

Last year at church, I was given a little lunch sack with goodies to share with my children.  A little card read…

We took our snack to the park and had a mini-picnic.  It is a wonderful memory.

I know some moms want time to themselves on Mother’s Day, but I like to spend time being silly and having fun with my kids.  So often I’m caught up with my to-do list that I forget to let loose with them.

The snack that I received was such a nice gesture and reminder of what being a Mother is all about, I wanted to keep the tradition going.  So I made a little snack bags for each of the kids in my preschool class at church to give to their Moms for Mother’s Day this year.

I’d love to share this free printable Mother’s Day tag I made, so you can make them too and spread the joy!

I put Popcorn, Oreos, a couple of mints, and napkins in my snack bags and stapled them shut with the cute little tag for decoration and a place for the kid’s to write their name.  I’ll let the kids decorate the rest of the bag with stickers and markers to add a personal touch.  You could also tie some ribbon on to turn them into Mother’s Day party favors.

Aren’t they cute?  I just might make one for myself.  I know my kids would appreciate it

Moms need to stick together and start encouraging one another no matter our differences.  So how about it?  Will you make another mom’s day?

My dear sweet Audrey.  I cried when I learned I was pregnant with you.  I just wasn’t ready.  I wanted to be successful first.  I wanted a “Degree.”  Me, me, me, it was all about me.  How foolish was I to define my success by the titles I didn’t hold.

When my second child came along I was still at it; getting even less sleep while trying to finish my degree online.  While I mostly blame my ignorance on a 13-year indoctrination, I also blame myself.

Pride can get in the way.

Today, more and more Women trade in motherhood for an “Executive” position.  We strive for a pat on the back from a company who cares no more for us than a driver for his car.

We know how the story ends. We regret not spending more time with our children.  We are stuck.  We are tired, we are overwhelmed, we’re unhappy.

While we may think we are pursuing our “dreams”, we are only living out another’s need for worker bees.  I understand the need for some women to work, but what inhuman force put it in our minds that being a Mother couldn’t satisfy our desire for accomplishment?

What could be more rewarding than to raise up children who are better than ourselves, to glorify God?  The world says possessions, money, and power.  God says, “Behold, children are a gift of the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward.” Psalm 127:3

The Most Satisfying Job: Motherhood

After being a mother, I can say that the most joy I have ever felt is in hearing and seeing the laughter of my children and holding them in my arms.  Yet I still struggle with pride today.

Why do I have an overwhelming desire to prove to others that I am important?  Am I not already?  “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5

I say this to myself as much as I’m saying it to you.

Mother’s, God made you irrevocably important and special.  To deny that is to believe strangers over the one true God.  Don’t succumb to the pride of life and worldly desires. “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before stumbling.” Proverbs 16:18  Don’t discount your divine calling.  You are desperately needed.  Don’t trade it in!

I am a Mother of 2 daughters and this handsome little guy is the newest addition to the family.  Since I know a lot of new moms and moms-to-be, I wanted to share some tips that have helped me get my babies to sleep.

I’m an expert now and I can say that because, all of my children have slept through the night at 2 months and are still great sleepers (5 of my kids are ages 2+).  Some moms have told me that their children didn’t sleep through the night until the age of 2!  That means they didn’t sleep either.

Sleep deprivation is not fun! I hope these tips will help you  and your baby get more sleep.

1. Hungry Babies Aren’t Happy Babies.

So get your baby to nurse for at least 20 minutes, or take 2-3 oz of formula. This may take an hour to accomplish because of the sleepy and gassy nature of your baby.  If you must, keep your baby awake by undressing him, changing his diaper, even tickling his toes.   The end result will be a satisfied baby that sleeps longer.

2. When in Doubt, Burp it out.

I am convinced burping is a learned action and does not come naturally to your baby.  If you can’t get a burp right away, lay your baby flat for a few minutes and then try again.

Still no burp?  Keep trying.  Unfortunately, without a burp your baby won’t sleep very long.

If he does wake up early from his nap crying, try burping him again. If you do get a burp out, try putting him back down to see if he falls asleep.

To reduce his chances of becoming gassy, prop him up when you feed.  You and I don’t lie down while we eat, so baby shouldn’t either.  I like to use the “football hold” for this when they are very tiny.  I use it exclusively for the first 3 months.

So, prop your baby up while feeding and, “when in doubt, burp it out.”  Your baby will sleep better without a belly full of bubbles.

3. Order is everything.

Follow this order of operations; feed, wake, sleep.  During wake time, I try to keep my baby upright for an hour, which includes feeding time.

Your baby’s digestive system is still developing and is very sensitive.  It’s like an active volcano.  He will get gassy if he lays down right after a big meal.  He doesn’t need to be alert and awake before you lay him down, but make sure you are not feeding your baby to sleep.

The reasoning goes along with tip #2.  If you skip burping your baby he will either wake up right away, or 30 minutes later, acting like he is hungry.  A vicious cycle ensues.

You try feeding.  Baby eats a little and falls asleep.  You put him down again, but he wakes up right away acting hungry again.  You think to yourself, “This kid is a glutton!”  So, you feed him again and guess what happens?  He throws it all up because he wasn’t hungry.  He was gassy!

The feed, wake, sleep order helps your baby’s stomach settle and helps him learn what to expect.  Many new parents get this order mixed up.  Remember, the feed, wake, sleep, order is key to helping your baby consistently sleep.

4. Got a Schedule?

If you don’t have a schedule, I would make one right now.  A schedule will help you accomplish more, reduce stress, and help you get more sleep.

When it comes to my baby, I like to stick to a 3hr schedule for the first 3 months.  That means, 3 hours from the start of one feeding to the beginning of the next.  I will wake him up to feed, except at night when I let him wake up on his own after 10pm.

Think about it.  If you get over-hungry how do you feel?  Does your stomach grumble or feel queasy?  Do you get grumpy, or emotional?  I think the same idea applies to your baby.

When you let him get really hungry, he may be harder to feed because he is grumpy and his tummy hurts.  A schedule helps you determine what your baby needs.

You don’t have to stick to a rigid schedule.  Every baby is different.  Some babies are hungrier and might need more food. Some are fussy and more demanding. I highly recommend a schedule, but adjust it according to your baby’s needs and to your unique parenting style.

5. Don’t Set Your Hair on Fire.

Stress is a daily battle for all mothers, but we can’t let it get the best of us.  Things are suppose to go wrong.  Our babies are going to cry and fuss.  These tips will definitely help, but sleepless nights will happen.

I remember being very stressed out with my first baby.  My worry became despair, my despair became an urge to set my hair on fire, and then my husband stepped in to stop the madness and encouraged me.  He reminded me that the phrase, “don’t act like a baby” wasn’t created out of thin air.

Babies cry and sometimes there is nothing you can do to stop it.

Be confident in your mothering skills.  No one is perfect, no one is perfect, NO ONE IS PERFECT!  This stage in your baby’s life will flash before your eyes. So remember, don’t stress and enjoy the precious time you have with your new bundle.
